Buddhism

"Do not dwell on the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." -Buddha

By limiting the viewing angle of the user, concentration and focus are encouraged. All things in the periphery disappear as you look only to the moment at hand.

Hinduism

Inspired by the Ohm, the form of the glasses represents the transition devotees make while in meditation. The transition from dream state to absolute conscience is in the form language of the glasses. The sectionunder the eye represents the awakened symbol of the Ohm. The section reaching back to the ear is the dream state of the Ohm.

The frames are made of paper for its light weight properties. A stell ball is placed in the center of the eyes to focus attention ahead.

Judaism

As suggested by the orthodox term shul, a primary function of the synagogue is as a house of study. Supporting both child and adult education with its library of sacred texts. This pair of simple reading glasses supports that ideal.

I was most intrigued by the fact that Judaism is as much a culture as it is a religion. Reflecting the community aspect of being Jewish was very important in the design of these glasses. Forms are taken from the written Hebrew language to subtly hint at the relationship the glasses have to Judaism.

Islam

Submission to Allah is one of the chief aspects of Islam. Arabic script is canonical to the religion, as the Koran is only valid in the Arabic text.Allah's name is written in Arabic, and then wrapped around the head to symbolize the pact between an individual and god.

The glasses are made of aluminum, which is a relatively light metal. This is to contrast the heaviness of looking up such an act, with the relief and comfort honest devotion bring.

Christianity

Do unto others as you would have done unto you. This is expressed functinally by having two pairs of glasses overlapping each other, making it too dark to see. When a person removes a pair, and gives it to another, they are both allowed to view the light.

The material of twigs and leather binding were chosen to emulate the thorn crown Jesus wore. The Ichthys profile is used to visually reinforce the religious influence.
